DJ Meltdown

Jason LaRosa, a.k.a DJ Meltdown, started out behind the decks at the young age of 13.  Born and raised in Middletown, CT, Meltdown has always had an infinite love for music.  At 12 he started to expand his music collection to fit a wide variety of musical tastes.  At 14 Meltdown purchased his first mixer and turntables from a local music shop, although vinyl was expensive, he managed to amass a collection to practice with.  By 16 he had gained the respect of his peers and the local community, performing at school dances, local parties, and securing a residency at Club 2001 in Newington, CT.

Carrying on through high school, DJ Meltdown turned out various mixtapes and performed at many local clubs and parties.  Brief stints at the Buttonwood Tree (Middletown, CT), Club Wildside (Meriden, CT), and The Blues Cafe (New Haven, CT) along with appearances at local record shops built a loyal fan base in New England.  By 1999 Meltdown had signed with Buggin’ Base of New York and was spinning at parties in Maine, New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

In 2000 promoters brought DJ Meltdown to the limelight of Hartford, spinning at System and Vibe in Hartford, and Van Dome in New Haven.  Meltdown has made guest appearances at L’Action Discotheque in Montreal.  The end of 2000 brought another residency at The Vault in Meriden, CT.

In late 2000, DJ Meltown secured a spot working with Matt Read on WESU 88.1 FM in Middletown, CT.  He co-hosted a late night hip-hop show for about 6 months before moving on to a prime time spot working with DJ Berk and DJ Dork.  In 2003 DJ Meltdown teamed up back to back with DJ Big Steph, for a Saturday night 9pm-1am block that rocked the house.  With Steph playing hip-hop and Meltdown playing house and trance, they formed a college mix show that rivaled those of commercial stations.

Mid 2003 brought another residency to the table with DJ Meltdown spun at “Elmers Place”, a popular night spot on the Central Connecticut State University campus. In late 2003, the club and party scene was slow and DJ Meltdown decided to head for Chicago.

While in Chicago, DJ Meltdown produced remixes for local artists J-LP & Ray JBransin Anderson & electro-pop band Ask you in Gray.  He also provided remix support for some larger worldwide & regional acts such as European House Music phenomenon Funkerman ft. Shermanology, Australian pop diva Amy Pearson, German trance legends National Core, Canada’s foremost female DJ Kerrie Nation, and Seattle’s most popular electro-pop band Go Periscope.

In mid-2010 DJ Meltdown released his first original track titled “Abyss“, under his own label Eyes of House Records. He also fashioned remixes for some of the most emerging artists of 2010 such as Vonnie Vonshay, Mike Posner & Cee Lo Green. His remix of Bimbo Jones & Beverly Knight’s “I Found Out” placed 5th out of 71 entries in a recent remix contest.

While holding a Friday night residency at South Illinois University hotspot “Brian’s Place”, DJ Meltdown made guest appearances at popular Chicago nightspots like Ontourage Nightclub, Plush, The Department, D’Tox Ultra Lounge, and The Grand Central. Upon his return to Connecticut, DJ Meltdown has played at some of the most in-demand nightspots including Barcelona Wine Bar, Downtown at the Taft, Blush Nightclub & The Shadow Room.  Combining his always in demand remix abilities, his ear for scouting out the newest dance floor smashes, and his ability to blend them seamlessly with classic floorfillers has made DJ Meltdown a go to commodity for club owners and promoters alike.
